Oops! Is Your DTF Print Sticking to the Back of the Film? Let’s Talk About It. The print looks awesome, colors are vibrant, everything’s baked and ready. But then… wait. Why is part of your design stuck to the back of the film roll? Now you’ve got smudged details, maybe a little tearing, and one big headache.
What’s the Problem?
Your DTF print looks flawless at first, but after baking and rewinding, parts of the design stick to the back of the film roll. This leads to tearing, distortion, and ruined transfers, making the design unusable.
The following factors can lead to design sticking after baking
Single-Side Coated Film
Films with only one coating layer are more likely to stick when rewound hot. Without anti-static or heat-resistant backing, they don’t handle heat as well as double-coated films.
- Fast Rewinding Speed
Rolling the film before it has cooled increases the risk of sticking and surface damage. - High Ambient Temperature
If the oven fan blows warm air or the ventilation is poor, the film may remain too hot during the rewinding process, causing parts of the design to stick. - Low White Ink Coverage
Insufficient white ink coverage reduces the barrier layer between the film and the design, making the print more tacky. - Incompatible Materials
Using poor-quality film or mismatched powder can lead to tacky, unstable prints after baking.
How to Fix it
Here’s how you can prevent sticking and achieve the best results:
- Use Double-Side Coated DTF Film
Opt for films with dual coatings to reduce static, handle heat better, and resist back-sticking. - Control Print Room Temperature
Ensure good airflow and cooling near the oven exit to prevent the film from staying too hot. - Slow Down Rewinding
Allow the film to cool before rolling it up to prevent heat-induced adhesion. - Follow Recommended Ink Output
Use white ink at the correct volume, as recommended by your printer or film supplier. - Upgrade Consumables
Use high-quality hot melt powder that matches the film type and print conditions to prevent sticky, unstable prints.
Pro Tip: Rewind-related issues often stem from an imbalance in heat management, film quality, or ink control. By making small adjustments in these areas, you can avoid major failures.
